Master of the DIY lo-fi nineties mystique, Copenhagen based multi instrumentalist, singer composer Younolovebunny is hot off the heels of releasing the Bandcamp exclusive Rock Truck Bee Sides album this past September. Recently we took a moment to sit down with Claus to discuss his latest release and all things orbiting the Younolovebunny universe.

RNRF: What is the meaning behind the album title Rock Truck Bee Sides

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: The short answer: It’s a fun title. This album is a compilation of B-sides—songs I recorded recently but didn’t manage to include on any of my previous albums.

RNRF: When were the songs recorded?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: The songs were recorded both at home and at my practice space, where I have a drum kit. I taught myself to record drums using eight microphones, inspired by Steve Albini’s approach. I invested in high-quality mics like the RE20 and Beyer models. Typically, I used a 4-track recorder, but when it stopped working, I switched to digital recording. I also play drums in a band called Bubbling Well, and we recently recorded a 14-song album using my setup at the practice space. Most of the songs are recorded at home with different drum machines. Two of the songs are old demos and recorded on my old 4 track.

RNRF: Why release exclusively through Bandcamp?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: It’s straightforward! I simply wanted to get the songs out there without any hassle.

RNRF: Are there any guest musicians on the album?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: No, it’s just me playing all the instruments.

RNRF: Are you planning any upcoming shows or tour dates to promote the album release?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY :Not at the moment, but it could be a lot of fun! I do enjoy performing live.

RNRF: Were the songs on Rock Truck Bee Sides previously recorded for past albums but unreleased at the time?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: Most of these songs were recorded for the album “Plum,” which I released on Safe In The Rain Records earlier this year. Two of the songs are old demos but they seemed to fit in.

RNRF: Any plans for touring North America?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: Not currently. I live in Denmark, and such a trip would be quite expensive. Without label support, it’s not feasible in the near future. However, it would be a blast—I have friends in Portland that I’d love to visit again.

RNRF: How familiar are you with the indie Canadian power pop band Kiwi Jr.?

YOUNOLOVEBUNNY: I’m a huge fan! I discovered them by chance. As an animator, I love creating animated music videos and was thrilled when they agreed to let me make one for them.  I also recorded a cover of “The Extra Sees The Film,” which was the last song I recorded on my 4-track before it broke.
