Unless you’ve been under a rock this past spring you are probably aware that Sean Ono Lennon, son of John & Yoko, along with James McCartney, son of Sir Paul and Linda McCartney, have come together to collaborate on the first new Lennon & McCartney track in over 55 years.
The ensuing song, Primrose Hill, was released by ECR Music Group April 12, 2024, sandwiching it between McCartney’s previous 2024 single Beautiful, from February 23, and his latest, Nothing, released May 31. Speculation persists that there’s a new McCartney album in the works, one that could possibly include other sons of Beatles or even the two surviving Beatles themselves.
Previous to his 2014 full length album debut, Me, McCartney tested the waters with two five and six track extended play EPs, Available Light (2010) and Close At Hand (2011) respectively.
McCartney’s The Complete EP Collection, released November 22, 2011, features all the tracks from both EPs along with five additional songs.
The Complete EP Collection marked McCartney’s first physical release as both individual EPs had previously only been available digitally.
Prior to his collaboration with Lennon, McCartney has not released new material in close to a decade. Not since his 2016 sophomore album The Blackberry Train has there been any new McCartney.
Hopefully we have not heard the last of him or any possible future collaborations with other children of The Beatles. Like John himself said,
“You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one”
