Why: Centered around lead singer, guitarist, songwriter Nathan Williams, this Spin Magazine, A.V. Club, Pitchfork, Paste approved San Diego surf-punk band has released 7 albums and numerous singles since forming in 2008.
They have been featured in Grand Theft Auto as well as on both Conan and Letterman. And, in spite of an album title and band name sun drenched in the glories of shore life, Williams reportedly hates the beach. Yeah, and Brian Wilson don’t surf!
Williams has noted that the cover for King Of The Beach features a pot smoking cartoon version of his cat Snacks who was previously featured on the cover of Best Coast’s debut album, Crazy For You. Sadly Snacks, the indie rock celebrity cat, passed away in February 2022.
