Who: The Black Belles
What: The Black Belles
Where: Nashville, Tennessee via Detroit, Michigan, USA
Why: In 2009 at the age of 19, gutsy Detroit schoolgirl Olivia Jean got herself down to the local live music venue hosting Nashville based The Dead Weather and managed to get her song demos into the hands of the future Mr. Olivia Jean. Impressed with what he heard, the future Mr. Jean invited Olivia down to Nashville to record what would become her first album. Not having a band of her own at the time, she commenced to mingle amongst Nashville’s finest, eventually grouping with likeminded music soul sisters Ruby Rogers (bass) and Shelby Lynne (drums). Augmented with the addition of a keyboard player, they named themselves The Black Belles after the legend of the Bell Witch from Adams, Tennessee and released their self titled debut album two years later. The rest, as they say, is Rock N Roll history.
When: 2011
