“A year ago my eldest son Stephen handed me his iPhone and said, “Dad, listen to this record.” The artist was Chris Stapleton. The sound and feel just blew me away and threw me into this journey. I asked Stephen who Chris’ producer was and he said a gentleman named Dave Cobb. A lot of our songs were country influenced by nature, and being a lifelong bluegrass and country music fan, I now started hearing an album in my head. I wondered if it would be possible to ask some of the singers I admire most if they’d be open to working with me? I wasn’t sure if the concept would be embraced by the label, until the head of Capitol Records, Steve Barnett, convinced me it could actually happen! I told him I knew in my heart that Dave was the right guy to make the album with me and he agreed. Throwing caution to the wind, I asked Dave if we could meet. In all honesty, I was braced for a polite no. After all, it would take real time and commitment on his part to turn the idea into reality. To my delight and amazement, he instantly said yes, and the world changed! So here it is, an album of our songs, reborn through these incredibly gifted singers, I’d always dreamed of working with in some form or another. From the first day we stepped into RCA Studios in Nashville (the very place where Elvis, Willie, Waylon, Roy, the Everly Brothers and so many other legends made their magic) the album took a life of its own.” – Barry Gibb
