Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s ballet and orchestral concert work The Rite Of Spring was first performed on May 29, 1913 at the Theatre Des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The extremely new and avant garde nature of the work caused a riot within the confines of the 1,900 seat concert hall that spilled out into the streets. Since then the work has come to be accepted as one of the most important compositions of the 20th century.
