Who: The Superions

What: Destination…Christmas!

Where: Orlando, Florida

Why: The Superions are an American synth pop band formed in Orlando, Florida in 2006 as a side project of The B-52s frontman Fred Schneider with Noah Brodie and Dan Marshall. The band, originally named The Del Morons, was founded in 2006. Schneider first met Brodie and Marshall, vinyl enthusiasts like himself, in 2002 through a mutual friend with a record store in Orlando. When in Orlando, Schneider began staying with Brodie and Marshall, turning them on to lounge and tiki music. During a stay in December 2006, Brodie and Marshall played Schneider a track they had composed and asked Schneider if he would put words to it. Later on, a friend of Schneider’s told him no one would take a band called The Del Morons seriously so the trio changed their name to The Superions and released their debut track Totally Nude Island themselves as a digital single on iTunes on October 31, 2008. Their debut album, Destination…Christmas!, was released two years later, October 25, 2010, on New York based Fanatic Records on CD, LP and digital download. Schneider said the albums 11 original tracks “cover all the Christmas themes: yetis, avalanches and fruitcake. It’s not traditional.” Amy Luther and Rachel McCabe provide backing vocals on the album’s opening track Santa’s Disco.
