Green Day are the Rolling Stones of punk rock, in a good way. An uncompromising creative force onto themselves Green Day have managed to remain relevant and vital throughout a continuing stretch of 30 plus years maneuvering the murky waters of popular music’s fickle underbelly. Long after punk rock pioneers The Sex Pistols, The Clash and The Dead Kennedys crashed and burned Green Day live on. Even the great granddaddys of punk rock themselves, The Ramones, active from 1974 through to 1996, come up short by 8 years when compared to Green Day who show no sign of slowing down any time soon.
More power pop than punk, their latest record Father Of All Motherfuckers showcases the punk rock power trio Billie Joe Armstrong (vox/guitar) Mike Dirnt (bass) and Tré Cool (drums) at their air tight best. Clocking in at a near perfect 26 minutes, 4 of the album’s 10 glam inspired tracks barely hit the 2 minute mark. To borrow a tired old rock n roll cliche Father Of All Motherfuckers is all killer no filler. Like a well executed break and enter they get in and get out. The perfect crime.
