Originally hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Canadian singer, composer, music producer Shawn Tennant, known professionally as HERO and currently based out of Montreal, Quebec, has set his eyes firmly on the prize with the release of Dirty Work his first EP for Brooklyn, New York record label Fool’s Gold Records. Following up his self-released 2016 VHS POP EP Tennant has created an engagingly danceable indictment of contemporary nightcrawl sex culture with his six track Dirty Work EP. At its core this 17-minute-long EDM meditation on the anatomy of a hook up is essentially four tracks fleshed out with a brief opening prelude and short mid-section transitional segue. Borrowing heavily from Daft Punk’s assorted bag of production tricks Tennant’s wizardry at the helm is impressive nonetheless. Adhering to the age old “leave ‘em wanting” entertainment maxim, he has apparently decided less is more. Only time will tell if Tennant has the wherewithal to sustain listeners interest throughout a proper spin of a full-length album release, until then Dirty Work certainly whets the appetite. More, more, more indeed!
