Socks is 41 year old Oklahoma native JD McPherson’s fourth album in eight years and first stab at Christmas since his December 2012 single Twinkle (Little Christmas Lights). A brisk 30 minute listen Socks is perhaps most impressive for the fact that McPherson, whose first two albums went #1 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums Chart, wrote or co-wrote each of the albums 10 original tracks (physical copies of both the LP & CD version include the 2012 Christmas single as a bonus track). Recorded in May 2018 at Alex The Great Recording in Nashville, Tennessee, Socks swings hard and fast with vintage rhythm and blues infused retro rock n roll rockabilly beats masterfully delivered by top notch players Jimmy Sutton (bass) Jason Smay (drums) keyboardist Raynier Jacob Jacildo (celeste, vibraphone, Hammond organ, piano) multi-instrumentalist Doug Corcoran (tenor and baritone saxophones, six-string bass, lap steel guitar, glockenspiel, celeste, electric and acoustic guitars) and McPherson on lead vocals and electric guitar. Socks is the perfect punchline to Eddie Cochran walks into a bar and meets Louis Jordan at Christmastime. Jump jive and wail your way through the holidaze this year in JD McPherson’s Christmas socks, the one time socks wont suck for Christmas.

Song Of The Day Club Album Review 38/52
Great informative Review bud. Only thing I’d amend is to remove the word Retro to just straight on New. Pure Rock’n Roll bliss for the ears at Christ-bliss time 🙂 Can’t ever beat that dry but live off the floor sound with the doghouse bass and snappy drums and guitars. Thanks so much for turning my ear to it 🙂 Best gift this year for me [makes me want to dig up all the damn songs I’ve written for Christmas over the years but never recorded… dang it]. lol
