Fiftysomething trailblazer Kristin Hersh is perhaps best known for her work with Throwing Muses, the band she helped form in 1981 at the age of 14 while attending high school in Newport, Rhode Island. In the years since she has released over 20 albums and published three books. Rolling Stone Magazine rated her 2010 memoir Rat Girl number eight on their list of the 25 Greatest Rock Memoirs Of All Time. Fiercely independent, Hersh was one of the first musicians to embrace the freedom of direct digital distribution making her music available to fans online as early as 1996. In addition to her ongoing four decades long association with Throwing Muses and her work with power trio 50FootWave, Hersh has also managed a steady flow of solo albums over the last 20 years, her most recent Possible Dust Clouds released October 5, 2018 on Fire Records. From start to finish Hersh delights, bootstomping her way through 36 minutes of the lean and vibrant Possible Dust Clouds, each one of the album’s 10 tracks progressively more thought provoking and St. Vitus’s Dance inducing than the last. Hersh’s poignant razor gargling vocals and heavy chunk guitar work help punctuate the finest moments of this ferocious mix. An exhilarating listen.
