Son of famous American physicist Hugh Everett III, Mark Oliver Everett was born April 10, 1963.
Everett began his career in music in 1985 after moving from the family home in Virginia and resettling in California. Five hundred copies of his first album, “Bad Dude In Love”, credited to Mark Everett (omitting his middle name) were pressed and distributed mostly amongst friends and the press in 1985.
It would be another seven years before new Everett recordings would emerge, this time in the guise of his first two albums released by a major record label, “A Man Called E” (1992) and “Broken Toy Shop” (1993) both credited to the pseudonym “E”.
In 1995 Everett ceased to record under the “E” moniker and formed the band eels, releasing their debut album’ “Beautiful Freak” the following year in 1996. Since that time the band, consisting of an ever changing line up of musicians both in the studio and on stage, making Everett the only official composer and member for the most of the band’s work, has released 10 studio albums including his most recent, “The Cautionary Tales of Mark Oliver Everett”, released April 21, 2014 on E Works/Vagrant Records.
Not your typical rock star, In addition to his career in music, Everett has written the novel, “Things The Grandchildren Should Know”, published by Little, Brown & Company in 2008 and fronted the 2007 BAFTA award winning documentary film, “Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives”, in which he talks with physicists and former colleagues of his father, Hugh Everett III, discussing at length his Dad’s “Many-Worlds” interpretation of quantum mechanics.
Here Everett and company perform a live acoustic rendition of John Lennon’s “I’m Only Sleeping”, originally recorded by The Beatles for their 1966 album “Revolver”.
